Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, (15:1)

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. (15:2)

But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? (15:3)

For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. (15:4)

But ye say, Whosoever shall say to [his] father or [his] mother, [It is] a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; (15:5)

And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. (15:6)

[Ye] hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, (15:7)

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me. (15:8)

But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men. (15:9)

And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: (15:10)

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. (15:11)

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? (15:12)

But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. (15:13)

Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. (15:14)

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. (15:15)

And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? (15:16)

Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? (15:17)

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. (15:18)

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (15:19)

These are [the things] which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. (15:20)

Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. (7:1)

And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. (7:2)

For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash [their] hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. (7:3)

And [when they come] from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, [as] the washing of cups, and pots, brazen vessels, and of tables. (7:4)

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? (7:5)

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with [their] lips, but their heart is far from me. (7:6)

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men. (7:7)

For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, [as] the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. (7:8)

And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. (7:9)

For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: (7:10)

But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, [It is] Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; [he shall be free]. (7:11)

And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; (7:12)

Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. (7:13)

And when he had called all the people [unto him], he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one [of you], and understand: (7:14)

There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. (7:15)

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. (7:16)

And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. (7:17)

And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, [it] cannot defile him; (7:18)

Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? (7:19)

And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. (7:20)

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, (7:21)

Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: (7:22)

All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (7:23)
